A Wind Trader Sitting on a Bag of Stocks Held Aloft Only by the Wind, 1720

A Wind Trader Sitting on a Bag of Stocks Held Aloft Only by the Wind, 1720

Een windhandelaar zit op een zak met aandelen die alleen door de wind hoog wordt gehouden, 1720, 1720
anonymous

Depicting a scene from 1720, an imaginative artwork showcases a wind trader with a windmill atop his head, perched on a bag of stocks that are whimsically held aloft by the wind alone. To the left, a monkey perches in a tree, peering through a telescope, while to the right, a cat amusingly flies through the air with balloons tied to its paws. The print is part of the first bound edition (304 B 10) of 'The Great Tableau of Folly', featuring satirical cartoons on the Wind Trade or Share Trade of 1720. Both Dutch and French verses adorn the caption.
