Allegory on the French Invasion of 1672

Allegory on the French Invasion of 1672, 1672
Johannes van Wijckersloot

This artwork is an allegorical representation of the French invasion of the Netherlands in the calamitous year of 1672. It features a jovial young man, showing a seated man wearing a hat, a piece of paper or print. The paper depicts a crowing French rooster triumphantly standing over the Dutch Garden where the Dutch lion lays defeated, its sword broken and arrows scattered. The garden fence is trampled flat. At the bottom of the sheet, there's a musical score.
