Johann Sadeler (I)
This captivating piece showcases Apollo, the god of arts, surrounded by instruments used in the practice of the seven liberal arts, painting, and sculpture. These include a lyre, a music book, a globe, a protractor, a compass, a paintbrush, and a bust. To the left is an academic institution filled with scholars, while to the right lies a garden where painting and sculpture are being practiced. The backdrop features Mount Parnassus and the nine Muses. The print includes a Latin inscription explaining the significance of arts to a monarch. This is the second print in a five-part series focusing on the main duties of a prince.
