Festival in Florence: The Love Float
Festival in Florence: The Love Float
Feest te Florence: praalwagen van de Liefde, 1616
Jacques Callot
Behold a magnificent float, designed to resemble a grand cloud, at the heart of which Cupid is surrounded by a retinue of cherubs and the three Graces. This architectural marvel was crafted for the feast 'Guerra di Bellezza', hosted by Cosimo II de' Medici in 1616 in Florence. The occasion was the arrival of Federico della Rovere, the Prince of Urbino and fiancé of Cosimo's sister Claudia. Suspended above the scene is a banner inscribed with Italian text.
