About this work of art

About this piece

Five elegant cranes stand gracefully on the beach at the water's edge, their wings subtly embossed. This print is notable as the first state where the poem ends with 'the first beautiful weather' (hatsu hiyori), later revised in subsequent editions to 'from the first day of the year' (hatsuhi yori). Accompanied by a single poem.
