Jupiter and Saturn

Jupiter and Saturn

Jupiter en Saturnus, 1632
Michel Natalis

Saturn, his scythe beneath his feet, sits in front of a rock adorned with shackles. Beside him stands Jupiter, pointing out two cherubs offering Saturn a crown and scepter. Next to Jupiter, his attribute, an eagle clutching lightning bolts in its beak, soars. The bee on the scepter signifies the influential Roman Barbarini family and the papacy of Urban VIII, who hailed from this lineage.
