This captivating piece portrays the moment Mercury spies on Cecrops' daughters as they return from Minerva's feast, falling in love with the most beautiful among them, Herse. Below the scene, two pairs of lines of Latin text add depth to the narrative. This print is part of a series of 52 prints that illustrate tales from Ovid's Metamorphoses. The series is divided into three numbered sequences: two consisting of 20 prints each and one of 12 prints. This particular piece belongs to the second sequence.
