Moses with the Ten Commandments

Moses with the Ten Commandments

Mozes met de Tien Geboden, 1585
Adriaen Collaert

Moses stands at the center, clutching two stone tablets inscribed with the Latin version of the Ten Commandments. Flanking him are four scenes from biblical history. To the top left, King Solomon prays during the consecration of the temple (1 Kings 8). Below, Christ is driving out the money changers from the temple (Luke 19:45). To Moses' right, God appears to him on Mount Sinai (Exodus 19), and beneath this scene, a moment from the parable of the Good Samaritan unfolds (Luke 10:25-37). Each image is accompanied by a Latin caption. This print also features Latin inscriptions at the top and bottom and serves as the title print for a series depicting scenes from the Old Testament related to the Ten Commandments.
