Perseus and Andromeda
Perseus and Andromeda
About this piece
Seated on Pegasus, Perseus strikes at the sea monster below him with his sword. Putti gather around Andromeda, who is chained to a rock, while Cupid frees her bonds. Her desperate parents watch from the shore. In the background, a cityscape featuring a pyramid is visible. Below the image, there is an explanatory text in French. This scene is inspired by Ovid’s Metamorphoses (Met. IV, 665-739) and Philostratus' Imagines (Im. I 29).
