Perseus and Andromeda

Perseus and Andromeda

About this work of art

About this piece

Seated on Pegasus, Perseus strikes at the sea monster below with his sword. Cherubs surround Andromeda, who is chained to a rock, while Cupid works to free her from her bonds. Her desperate parents watch anxiously from the shore. In the background, a cityscape features various structures, including a pyramid. Below the image, there is an explanatory text in French. This scene is inspired by Ovid's 'Metamorphoses' (Met. IV, 665-739) and Philostratus' 'Imagines' (Im. I 29).
