About this piece
Pierre Francheville, also known as Francavilla, was a renowned sculptor born around 1548 in Cambrai. His artistic journey took him to Italy, where he worked from 1571 to 1604, making significant contributions to the art world. Francavilla was a key collaborator with Giambologna in Florence, where his skills and creativity flourished. Hendrick Goltzius captured his likeness during his stay in Italy in 1590/91. Francavilla's legacy continued until his death in Paris in 1615.
