Satirical Cartoon on Daniel Raap, 1752
Spotprent op Daniel Raap, 1752, 1752
anonymous
This satirical piece from 1752 takes aim at Daniel Raap for his controversial advice to stop auctioning off the wine tax, suggesting instead that it should be paid by the wine merchants themselves. The devil is depicted squeezing turnip juice into a bottle labeled 'Turnip Soup', a clever play on Raap’s name which also means turnip in Dutch.
