Saturn

Saturnus, 1585
Jan Collaert (II)

An oval frame captures the raw intensity of the naked god Saturn, perched upon a pedestal. In one hand he wields a scythe, while with the other, he devours one of his own children. This chilling scene is accompanied by a Latin inscription and is part of a series exploring the seven planets and their associated deities.
