Statue of Mars in the Western Gallery of the City Hall on Dam Square
Beeld van Mars in de westelijke galerij van het Stadhuis op de Dam, 1655
Hubert Quellinus
Behold the imposing statue of Mars, resplendently armored, nestled in the northern part of the western gallery at Amsterdam's iconic City Hall on Dam Square. The helmet he wears is adorned with a dragon, symbolizing vigilance. At his feet, you'll find a wolf and a bird, possibly a magpie. The artist's mark 'Q' is subtly positioned at the base of the sculpture.
