The Battle of Waterloo, on June 18, 1815, unfolds in this dramatic scene. The moment when the English commander Wellington hears that Prussian reinforcements are on their way is captured. To the left, the wounded Prince William of Orange is being carried away. Commanders and other officers on horseback stand at the center, while to the right, wounded and fallen soldiers lay. The raging battles in the background add to the intensity of the scene. Among those portrayed are Lieutenant-General Lord Uxbridge, Sir Rowland Hill, Colonel Sir William Delancey, Major-General George Cooke, Colonel Harvey, Colonel Campbell and many more notable figures of the time.
