The Nobility of Lorraine
The Nobility of Lorraine
La Noblesse de Lorraine (The Nobility of Lorraine), 1620
Jacques Callot
This captivating piece showcases an elegantly dressed lady, seen from the front, adorned with a wide-collared dress and a mask over her face, delicately holding a flower. In the backdrop, one can observe small figures, a carriage by the porch of a villa, and a couple sharing a tender kiss. This print is part of an intriguing series of 12 prints depicting nobles in costumes worn in Lorraine during the first quarter of the 17th century. Half of the series illustrates men's costumes while the other half presents women's attire.
