A dramatic depiction capturing the moment Prince William III is sworn in as Captain-General of the Dutch armed forces. The scene shows the prince taking the oath of loyalty in front of Gaspar Fagel, the clerk of the States-General. Behind them, a grand tapestry portrays the Dutch Maiden in the Garden of Holland, flanked by columns with busts of William of Orange, Prince Maurice, Frederick Henry, and William II. In the background, two smaller scenes illustrate a banquet and fireworks held in honor of the prince's appointment.
