Woman in a Large Hat

Woman in a Large Hat

About this work of art

About this piece

A woman's half-figure stands against a bright sky in the glaring sunlight. She wears a wide-brimmed hat made of alternating strips of rose and white fabric, casting part of her face in shadow. Her eyes, hidden in the shadow, gaze directly at the viewer. She is dressed in a white satin gown that leaves one shoulder bare. A delicate rose ribbon falls from the hat onto her bare shoulder, while another wider ribbon of the same color serves as a belt. With both arms, she holds up a basket filled with light purple plums. The horizon is set low, revealing only the tops of trees at the bottom of the scene.
